Insights and impactful strategies to consider to better manage the invaluable commodity of time? 🌱
- Perspective. Personal. Plan and prioritise. Pause. Practise mindfulness.
A favourite quote of mine at university: “If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then it wasn't wasted time” - John Lennon. ✌😂
First up, let's reframe "Wasted time"...
Did you intentionally choose your activities?
Were the actions aligned to your values?
Did you enjoy the way you spent your time?
This can help us think about the way we use our time...
And if the answer to these were "no" (because, if we're honest, they are at times!)? Choose gentleness.
It's important to keep in mind that the way we choose to spend our time is personal to us- based on our priorities, personalities, values... It is absolutely shaped by our experiences and those around us, but we are ultimately responsible for how we choose to spend our time.
Being aware of our values can help us more intentionally choose how we spend our hours.
Psychologist Susan David speaks and writes a lot about this. She advises that we make a point of naming what our values are. When we choose actions more closely aligned to our values, we can be more intentional with our actions and how we spend our time.
Another intention we can set is simply to pause. When we're stressing, overthinking or time is just moving too fast- stop.
Breathe.
Remind yourself of your priorities and values, and that this stress/ anger/ [insert emotion here] will pass.
Once space is created, we're better equipped to respond and approach our actions (and ourselves!) mindfully.
In order to slow time down, we can use practising presence and mindfulness. This is about changing our attitude toward our experiences and becoming more curious.
This week, intentionally set out to engage with something new / old with curiosity. Let me know how it goes here 🤗.
