(A first-of-the month past-mid-year Monday feels like a good time to start this blog 🤷😊).
Wellness and wellbeing have become popular topics which is great! With the rise in popularity also comes an increase in misinformation though. So in these monthly-ish blogs I'll be sharing some researched & trusted information, tips to enhance wellness areas and what's happening in the counselling and wellness space.
As a specialist wellness counsellor registered with the ASCHP (more info on that organization in the link below), I am primarily concerned with individuals' wellness and wellbeing. While they're similar, there is an important difference. Wellbeing is made up of various areas of wellness- existential, social, physical, psychological, spiritual and work wellness. And these wellness areas are also made up of various dimensions. These are all deeply integrated and contribute to an individual's overall sense of wellbeing. Left unchecked, troubles in one area easily spill over to disrupt the whole system.
With a postgrad in psychology, I view issues & potential problems through this lens, and develop strategies that you can implement to improve wellness areas and therefore wellbeing.
Wellness is not merely the absence of illness or dysfunction though. It is better described as good health as well as the presence of happiness, fulfillment and purpose. It's moving beyond zero on the illness-wellness spectrum.
By addressing each area of wellness with you, we can work to bring integration and consolidation leading to an increase in wellbeing. If you're struggling with any known area or just feel like you're unfulfilled, drop me an email or inbox message. Because trauma (of all kinds; it's such a broad term) is a common disruptor of wellness & wellbeing, we'll address that next.
